What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure using fine crystals and a vacuum to remove dead skin cells. It can be used on the face, neck, and chest.

The treatment aims to reduce fine lines, minor scars, wrinkles and age spots, resulting in smoother and younger looking. Noticeable results can be seen in just one session. However, for optimum results, multiple sessions may be needed.

Microdermabrasion is an excellent treatment for overall skin rejuvenation. It can help diminish the early signs of ageing and improve the appearance of sun damaged skin. It can also be used to help to treat acne prone, congested, and oily skin types as well as dry, patchy skin, making it a versatile treatment suitable for all.

Minimally invasive, the microdermabrasion treatment at The Mind Body and Soul offers the chance to rejuvenate tired and congested skin. With this treatment, there is little to no downtime, and your facial skin will instantly look brighter, fresher, and healthier.

How Long Does Microdermabrasion Take

Microdermabrasion is a popular cosmetic treatment that helps improve the appearance of the skin. The procedure involves the use of a device that removes the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother, and more radiant skin underneath.

The length of time a microdermabrasion treatment takes can vary depending on several factors, including the size of the area being treated and the person's skin type. On average, a full-face treatment takes about 30 to 60 minutes, while smaller areas, such as the hands or chest, may only take 10 to 15 minutes.

The first step of the treatment involves the preparation of the skin. The skin is cleansed, and any makeup or oils are removed. The microdermabrasion device is then used to gently exfoliate the skin, removing the top layer of dead skin cells. This step is usually performed using a stream of fine crystals or a diamond tip.

After the skin has been exfoliated, a nourishing mask or serum is often applied to hydrate and soothe the skin. This step is important as it helps to replenish the skin's natural moisture and protect it from damage.

Finally, the skin is protected with a moisturizer and sunblock. It is important to protect the skin from the sun, especially after a microdermabrasion treatment, as the skin is more sensitive to UV damage.

In conclusion, microdermabrasion is a quick and effective cosmetic treatment that can improve the appearance of the skin in just a matter of minutes. Whether you are looking to treat fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, or other skin concerns, microdermabrasion may be a great option for you.

 How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that uses fine crystals or a diamond tip to gently exfoliate the top layer of skin.

The process involves removing the outermost layer of dead skin cells, leaving behind smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin.

The process stimulates the production of new skin cells, resulting in improved skin texture, reduced fine lines, and a decrease in the appearance of age spots, sun damage, and acne scars.

Additionally, microdermabrasion increases blood circulation, which can help boost collagen production, making the skin more elastic and firm. This minimally invasive treatment is safe and effective for all skin types and has no downtime, making it a popular choice for those looking to enhance their skin's appearance. How Often Can You Have Microdermabrasion Done

Microdermabrasion is a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure that can be performed regularly to maintain healthy, radiant skin. The frequency of treatments can vary depending on individual skin type, skin condition, and desired results.

On average, most people receive microdermabrasion treatments every 4-6 weeks. This frequency helps to keep the skin looking refreshed, bright, and youthful, without causing damage to the skin.

However, some people with more sensitive skin may only need treatments every 8-12 weeks, while others with more resilient skin may benefit from more frequent treatments. To determine the best frequency for your microdermabrasion treatments, it is recommended to consult with a skincare professional.

They will assess your skin type and condition, and recommend a personalized treatment plan that will help you achieve the best results. Don't wait, book your appointment today and take the first step towards beautiful, healthy skin!
Before Treatment

Before treatment, we ask that all new clients have a consultation at our Colchester, Essex clinic. During this appointment, one of our expert aestheticians will assess your skin concerns and design a bespoke treatment plan for you. As Microdermabrasion does not require a patch test, this treatment can be performed on the day of your consultation.

For 3-7 days before treatment, we ask that you avoid retinols or products with high AHA levels or BHAs. For two weeks before treatment, avoid sunbeds, natural sun exposure and fake tan. It is important that you do not have laser or IPL treatments on the area you wish to treat for at least one week before your appointment, as this could cause irritation.

During Microdermabrasion

During your Microdermabrasion treatment, one of our expert aestheticians will use a device to remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface. As the treatment is completely pain free, no local anaesthetic is needed. Most people will liken the sensation of microdermabrasion to a faint scratching over the skin. Where necessary, extractions can be performed. On average, your treatment should last between 30 to 45 minutes.

Once the treatment is complete, it is important that you follow the skincare routine that your beauty therapist recommends. Do not apply any harsh cleansers on the day of your treatment or wear makeup that day.

Depending on your skin type and the concerns you wish to treat, we recommend a course of treatments at our Colchester, Essex clinic.

After Treatment

After your Microdermabrasion treatment is complete, you might experience redness, tightness, peeling, flaking and/or temporary dryness for 3-5 days post treatment. It is important that you do not pick or pull any flaking skin, and allow it time to rejuvenate fully.

Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for two weeks following treatment, alongside IPL treatment and chemical peels. Do not carry out any hair removal methods on the treated area for seven days, as well as any exfoliators.

Microdermabrasion is a very popular anti-ageing treatment for revitalising the skin – especially ideal for tired, dull or lack-lustre skin in need of brightening.

The treatment's painless exfoliation process gently removes layers of dead skin cells using vacuum suction. This aids lymphatic drainage stimulates blood circulation and increases the flow of nutrients and oxygen to the skin.
